With the VARAN bus, the requirements for hard real time control are combined with those for automation and implemented with Ethernet technology. The bus is based on IEEE 802.3 100TX standard Ethernet and the protocol is executed completely in the hardware.

TCP/IP cross traffic is integrated to take advantage of existing networks. The technology is open and can be used by anyone and collisions are avoided through the manager-client principle. The entire bus is treated as a 4GB memory space in which each client is assigned a defined memory range. The control CPU can then access all connected clients with simple read/write instructions.

VARAN also offers another unique feature; asynchronous direct access. Data packets can be resent within a data cycle until a valid confirmation is received. Therefore all data is valid at the end of a cycle.
